The Tripura government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, unveiled ambitious plans during the 34th Industries and Trade Fair aimed at revitalizing the state’s economy. Dr. Saha articulated the government’s vision to elevate the industrial sector’s contribution to 50% of the State’s Gross Domestic Product (SGDP), a significant leap from its current level.
In his address, Dr. Saha highlighted the state’s projected Gross State Domestic Product growth of 8.95% for the 2023-24 financial year, signaling a promising trajectory. Despite the challenges, he expressed optimism about Tripura’s economic resurgence, attributing it to recent policy reforms and a conducive investment climate.
The Chief Minister emphasized the influx of industry leaders expressing interest in establishing their ventures in Tripura, citing improved economic indicators and revamped industrial policies. He noted the establishment of 315 new medium and large industrial units across 14 industrial estates, generating employment opportunities for over 7,000 individuals. Additionally, he lauded the burgeoning ecosystem of value addition and manufacturing units led by self-help groups and small entrepreneurs.
Dr. Saha took a swipe at the previous administration, asserting a shift towards embracing entrepreneurial endeavors and fostering innovation under the BJP-led government. He hailed this transition as a ‘moral victory,’ underscoring the administration’s commitment to nurturing a business-friendly environment.
The implementation of the Tripura Industrial Incentive Scheme 2022 has catalyzed positive momentum, fostering a conducive atmosphere for industrial growth and amplifying trading activities, including exports. To bolster local enterprises, the government earmarked Rs 140 crore for the establishment of a Unity Mall, aimed at promoting indigenous products and bolstering economic growth, cultural diversity, and tourism.
